The Basic Engineering Department of Alagappa Government Polytechnic College offers Science to the Humanities. It comprises English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry Departments. This Department acts as a springboard and provides a dais for the diploma students to realize the value of Science and Technology. It has well-trained and experienced faculty members who guide and motivate the students to excel in their field of study. It conducts Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students to have a bird’s eye view about the course and the college.

The laboratories such as Physics Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory in the Basic Engineering department are well equipped with the state-of-the- art facilities to provide hands-on training to the students. Besides, the communication English Language Lab is efficiently utilized by the students to enrich their knowledge and enhance their communication skills. It provides training to the students to improve their LSRW skills in English.

The majority of the faculty members in this department possesses Doctoral degree and has qualified State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) and National Level Eligibility Test (NET) examinations in their respective subjects. They have also published a number of research articles in reputed national and International journals.
